Hi I have just moved to Brisbane and wanted to find somewhere to get microdermabrasion on a regular basis. I generally try to get one every month because my skin just looks and feels great when I do. However I have tried three places so far and have been not really happy. When I got the treatments in Melbourne they did extractions with the microdermabrasion, but when I asked about it hear I was told it was not usual. Do you include extractions with your microdermabrasion and where exactly in Brisbane are you located. I want to find a good clinic that will do a good job. Thankyou Sally
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 24 Jun 2008 at 8:33 pm #
Hi Sally, yes we certainly do any extractions when we do microdermabrasion treatments, not only is it a perfect time to do them but also especially with acne treatment where you need to get the skin pores really cleaned out it helps the acne settle more rapidly. We are in Chermside Brisbane, call us or come in and we can take a look at your skin and advise the best microdermabrasion treatment course.

Hello, when i was younger i had a lot of heat pimples on my back. now that i’m a bit older the pimples have all but gone but the scars are still there. i was wondering what sort of treatment your company would offer and what would the price range be.
Thanks
Kishan
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 16 Sep 2008 at 4:37 pm #
Hi Kishan, we would need to see you to assess what is happening to really be certain as to which treatment is the best. From what you describe microdermabrasion is probably not the best treatment for what you describe. Though some people advertise that microdermabrasion treats acne scars, it is really minimal reduction in appearance. Microdermabrasion is also not really appropriate for pigmentation, though sometimes you will get reduction there are other much more appropriate treatments. The best thing is to come in for a free assessment, we will take a look and then be advise the best options. There is no obligation with the assessment so call us on 33505447 to book a consultation with Serina.

Hi, I wanted to ask if it was ok to get Microdermabrasion done on a dark skin as i have dark skin.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 12 Jul 2009 at 4:27 pm #
Hi Amu, yes microdermabrasion is perfectly safe on dark skin types. Because it does not cause trauma to healty skin layers only remove the dead compacted outer skin layers and stimulate new skin growth it is perfectly safe and very healthy for all skin types.

Hi,
Does microdermabrasion remove blackheads? If not what treatment would you recommend?
Regards
Miriam
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 05 Aug 2009 at 7:21 am #
Hi Miriam, we do a medical grade microdermabrasion and include full extractions so the simple answer is ours does yes. We tailor our microdermabrasion treatments depending on your skin concern. If the main concern is blackheads we use salicylic acid (BHA) with the treatments and recommend using this (cost $41 for 112ml) as a follow up treatment. If required we can also add prescription creams however we rarely find this is necessary. Sometimes peels can be added into the mix it really depends on what the assessment of your skin is. The best thing is to come in for a free skin analysis if you live in Brisbane call us on 33505447 to book a complementary skin assessment. There is no obligation with this. Once we analyse what is happening we will be able to recommend the best way to proceed with microdermabrasion. Jo

Hi,
I was just wondering how much a micro session is at your clinic. I’m currently paying $88 for micro due to breakouts and mild acne scarring.
Thanks.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 08 Aug 2009 at 12:50 pm #
Hi Danielle, Although microdermabrasion is good for clearing breakouts it actually has very little effect on acne scarring. (Although everyone advertises it will help, it does little more than polish the edges of very mild acne.) What is more effective to treat acne scarring is skin needling, plasma regeneration therapy or Regenlab and Platelet Rich Plasma.
We are a cosmetic medicine clinic and as such we do medical grade microdermabrasion. The cost of a microdermabrasion at our clinic is $135 (although the cost of this comes down with a series to $112.50. Our microdermabrasions include full extractions (which is very important if you are trying to clear acne) and Salicylic acid and antioxidant treatments.
If you are interested in coming in and having your skin assessed, we can let you know what is the best option for treating your acne scars. The assessment is free and without obligation so call us on 33504625 if you wish a free consultation.

Hi,
this may seem like a strange question but i have heard of some people getting microdermabresion to minimise the look of stretchmarks on their bum and thighs, my stretch marks are the white ones that sort of crease in the skin, which looks a bit wrinkly. I was just wondering if you do this and if it would work.
Thanks.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 12 Aug 2009 at 7:26 pm #
Hi Danni,
No microdermabrasion does not work for stretch marks. Stretch marks are a tear in the deeper layers of skin (collagen and elastin layers) that occur at times of rapid growth. The microdermabrasion is a surface treatment that improves surface roughness and texture and very good for improving enlarged pores, black heads and acne. It is used to improve the surface quality as anti-aging or anti-acne treatment, however it does not effect the deeper layers of skin to repair such things as stretch marks. In fact stretch marks are so difficult to treat and the honest truth is nothing will get rid of them entirely. Treatments that work to stimulate collagen production in the deeper layers such as skin needling and fraxel lasers have reported to improve the texture and appearance of stretch marks and this may be significant, but it will still not get rid of them. I would not advise microdermabrasion for stretch marks. I hope this has been of help.

Hi, i have a few little white bumps on my upper cheeks that i think is milia. Can it be removed?
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 18 Sep 2009 at 9:23 am #
Hi Lilly, yes milia can be removed very simply with extractions. With extractions you do not necessarily need to get a microdermabrasion first, it depends on what is happening with the rest of your skin but if it is just a few milia you want removed we would not even charge you for that just come in. If you wanted you could book in for a free skin analysis first and we can let you know what the best approach is and then we can extract the milia. There is no obligation with the assessment so Call us on 33505447 to book a free consultation at the outset. Jo

hi, i was wondering how good is microdermabrasion for wrinkles and blackheads?
thanks toni
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 05 May 2010 at 4:21 pm #
Hi Toni,
1. Microdermabrasion combined with extractions is excellent to treat blackheads.
2. It can help improve the surface texture of the skin and lessen the appearance of wrinkles and it very popular as a maintainance/ general skin health/anti-aging routinue. However it will not get rid of wrinkles especially those caused by movement, which do require medical treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections. regards Jo
